USA, Midwest, 2028. Fifteen years have passed since the beginning of the cordyceps cerebral infection pandemic, which turned over 60% of the planet’s population into the Infected, monsters devouring human flesh, and condemned the survivors to a life of constant fear. Rotten cities, dead streets, rusty cars that have become graves for their owners. Hunger, fear, and lawlessness rule people. But even in this hell, the survivors continue to fight. Pine River is a small industrial town where some of the residents, in the chaos of the early years of the pandemic, were able to self-organize and create a protected, fairly self-sufficient settlement, which subsequently came under the control of FEDRA (Federal Emergency Disaster Response Agency), the only pre-pandemic authority that survived. Their soldiers, with an iron fist, control the distribution of food, resources, and the lives of every person behind the quarantine zone walls. But not everyone is ready to submit. From a neighboring state comes a squad of Fireflies – rebels who believe that freedom is worth any blood. Their main goal is the restoration of the pre-pandemic state and the fight against the military dictatorship that FEDRA has established in the quarantine zones (rumor has it that there are still scientists and doctors in their ranks who have not given up trying to find a cure for CCI). One of their detachments has reached the Pine River quarantine zone and is preparing to seize it, but first – they need weapons, supplies, and the support of local residents. And beyond the fortifications, chaos lurks. Hunters – cruel marauders for whom a person is just a resource. Hungry, ruthless, capable of anything. Their hands are stained with blood, and the bones of their enemies warm their fires. And, of course, the Infected. They feel no pain. They know no pity. They are just waiting for you to make a mistake…
